TL;DR
Reroute is an open, no-account, no-login, no-tracking transit routing tool. We don't collect names, emails, or advertising identifiers. Your origin, destination, and route preferences are sent to our server to compute routes and aren't persisted beyond the request lifetime.
Beta status
Reroute is in active beta. This policy reflects our current practice, but because the app is still being iterated on, we may update this page. Material changes will be surfaced on the app itself.
What we collect
- Route queries: the origin and destination coordinates you enter, plus any filters (mode, agency, departure time) you set. These are processed by our backend to generate route options and not retained after the response is returned.
- Browser-local state: preferences like your transit filters, pinned station, and theme are stored in your browser's
localStorage/sessionStorage. They never leave your device. - Server access logs: standard HTTP logs (IP address, user-agent, request path) are retained short-term for abuse prevention and rate-limiting. They are not linked to any identity and are not shared with third parties.
What we don't collect
- No user accounts, email addresses, or passwords.
- No advertising identifiers or cross-site tracking.
- No analytics cookies.
- No persistent trip history tied to you.
Third-party services
To compute routes and render maps, Reroute sends request data to the following services. We disclose them so you can review their policies directly:
- Mapbox — map tiles, geocoding, and driving/walking directions. Mapbox Privacy Policy
- Transitous (transitous.org) — free community-run transit routing API that covers GTA agencies. Your origin/destination are forwarded there to plan transit itineraries. transitous.org
- Open-Meteo — weather data used by the delay prediction model.
- Public GTFS / GTFS-RT feeds from TTC, GO Transit, YRT, MiWay, and other GTA agencies — these are fetched server-side and don't receive your request directly.
Non-affiliation
Reroute is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by TTC, GO Transit / Metrolinx, YRT, MiWay, Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit, UP Express, the City of Toronto, or any other transit agency. Agency names and logos are used descriptively for service identification only.
Your choices
- Clear your browser's site data for Reroute at any time to wipe all local state.
- Avoid granting geolocation permission if you'd rather type origins manually.
- Stop using the app — there's no account to delete.
